A few weeks ago, Wicked Diving started the Open Water course with 3 students from the Foundation for Education and Development (FED) as part of a unique program to train up some of their students to become Dive Guides, which will allow them to find work in the diving industry in Thailand.
After doing their training dives, the final exam was the last hurdle to become certified as SSI Open Water Divers. Although their spoken English is very good and the whole course was done in English, doing the complete exam in a foreign language is not that easy. Unfortunately we don’t have a Burmese translation…..Yet.
Myintzu actually passed the exam without any help and after a thorough oral explanation on all questions, both MMS and ChaiChai passed the exam as well.
In the last few weeks they have joined us on several daytrips to log some more dives and we hope to invite them on one of our liveaboard trips to the Similans or PhiPhi Islands in the near future. They show a great passion for the marine life and we are convinced that they will be great guides one day.
So a big congratulation to Myintzu, MMS and ChaiChai for passing the SSI Open Water course!

This is mainly sponsored out of the proceeds of the SSI ECOlogical certifications that have been issued in the region, for example on Wicked Diving’s Manta Education Trips. The proceeds of these certifications allow SSI to sponsor local environmental and community projects.
