Final Penang Pictures

Sorry, just finishing off the last of the pictures from the recent run to Penang. I love the photos in the above flyer. I think it would have sex loss too!

This was the neighborhood loony. He was walking around with a helmet, blowing a kazoo. He would suddenly stop, and run across the street and then go back the way he came. It was hard to get his picture.

This is a couple of flyers, possibly made by the same guy. I love gibberish.

Some random Penang Pictures....

Nice mix of old and new. If you click on the pix you'll see a larger image. In this case, read the sign...kind of funny. Maybe not to the pigs...but to me

Cool doorway. Penang has a nice mix of cultures and influences.

Traditional? But I passed a few old shop where people were doing very labor intensive products like wicker and noodles.

Penang, malaysia and the New Banana Guesthouse

First off I gotta say that it is a silly name. But you remember it, and that's what counts...

But I must say this is the first time I've had such good service in SE Asia. They answered Emails almost immediately, they gave very good, clear answers to the questions I asked and even asked if I needed a taxi to meet me at airport. This is all coming from some backpackers joint in China town...

They also offer Visa service to all us travelers and ex-pats. So they were able to tell me exactly what paperwork I needed to bring, how much it would cost and even warned me about a holiday that would screw things up.

This is Lily - she's got all your emails, and I can't remember his name (sorry) but they run the show. And they remembered me after 6 months, so they are in the right profession.

The best part! Penang is offering 1 year visas again.

Combine that with Fireflyz airline (again, a pretty stupid name considering we were parked on the runway that plane exploded a few weeks ago - "fire" is one of those names i don't want associated with my airplane experience, that or "crash" or "explode" or "burst into flames for no reason"). But They do offer a sweet flight from Phuket airport in the evening, and if you do your visa application correctly you'll be back in less than 48 hours.

They also have great taste in stickers!

Mad props to these guys for their awesome service and services.

Penang – Phuket flights

Just did a visa run to Penang on Fireflyz airline. While they have a pretty stupid name and are very hard to find online (they come up 20th when you Google) they are cheap and painless. 80 minute flight plus getting there and away.
50 seat Turbo-props with nice views of Langkawi (talk about pollution) and Koh Lipe (no pollution). Pop in a taxi and you are in your guest house in no time. Vice versa for Khao Lak. Seriously easy and saves so much time and hassle. It was formerly a minibus ride to the border, switching buses at Hat Yai (not safe) and then onwards. 14 hours or more. Never again…

That means Downtown Georgetown to Khao Lak in a total of 3 hours. 80 minutes flying and the rest driving! If you book far enough ahead then the flights are only 390 Baht (plus taxes – makes about 1500 baht). Good deal.
Life is getting better…
