Komodo Liveaboard trip - June 25th, 2012

On the afternoon of 25th June, the Jaya collected new guests, rounded up old ones and headed out for another 3 days of fun, diving and dragons in the Komodo National Park.

Diego, Scott, Oli and Jo were dive guides for the trip and our return guests, Elaine, Jodi, Kristel, Thomas, Fion and Wayne, were joined by new guests Elodie, Francois, Jennifer, Thorstein, Susanne, Lynda and Johann.

Diving took us to some of Komodo’s finest sites including Castle Rock, Cauldron, Karang Makassar and Tengah and we were treated to an array of marine life such as thorny back rays, white tip and grey reef sharks, 4 devil rays, mantas, napoleon wrasse, leaf scorpionfish, snakes eel, juvenile batfish, flatworms and nudis galore and sponge snails. Our Komodo Liveaboard is a great way to experience all this and more.

When we weren’t in the water, we took in the scenery of the national park and spent one evening on the beach watching the sunset over the dual peaks of Sangeang volcano in the West. That was also the night of hermit crab racing, when Scott’s crab, ‘Dave’, flattened the opposition with his speedy finish. Calls of doping ensued; an enquiry is set to take place.

On the last day of the trip we headed into Rinca to see the Komodo dragons. In addition to the many dragons that were spotted, we were also treated to a wild mama pig and 3 wild piglets.

Somehow in between all of the fun, Jodi upgraded from a Scuba Diver to an Open Water diver and Lynda and Johann also completed their Advanced Adventurer courses. Congratulations to all of you and thanks to everyone for coming along and joining us for this adventure.
