The first Komodo liveaboard of the season sailed into the Komodo National Park on 1st June 2012 for 3 days and 3 nights of fun and adventure, Wicked style!
Joining us on the trip were Melati, Freddie, Steve, Briony, Thomas, Ziad, Kutlu, Alfred, Robin, Doug and Dane. Accompanying our guests were the dive crew, Ricky, Diego, Jo and Linda who is completing her Divemaster training with Wicked at the moment. Also on board were our Jaya crew, Captain Ahmad, Heri, Sulaman, John, Abdun and Yanti.
The trip started with sunset snorkel and a chilled dinner on the first night and the dive schedule started the next day, with a lucky omen of "lumba lumba" (dolphins) seen on the surface. We were joined in the park by a trio of marauders, Weelee and Yukshi, 2 returning guests, and Sonia from the Wicked team.
Diving took in some of Komodo's most famous sites, including Castle Rock, Crystal Bommie, The Cauldron and Karang Makassar. We saw a host of wonderful marine life; reef sharks, turtles galore, an eagle ray, a marble ray, huge Napoleon wrasse, giant trevally hunting schools of fusilier. Lots of macro was seen too...crocodile fish, notodoris nudibranchs, two spot lionfish, hairy squat lobsters and a Spanish dancer were all treats for our guests.
The evenings were mainly spent with games, and a new group of Werewolf addicts were spawned. For those not in the know, Werewolf is a role play, murder mystery style game which is a favorite on the Jaya. Many accusations and much hilarity ensued. The final evening also saw the creation of the delicious Jaya cake, by Melati, who spoiled us all with this gooey, chocolatey delight. What a way to end a great day of diving.
The trip was wonderful experience for all on-board. 'Best dive ever' was a common phrase after dives. Thanks to our fabulous guests who made our first trip of this season such a fun and memorable one. We hope you come back again soon.
