Similan Dive Sites - Backside Reef

As part of our ongoing series of Similan Island Dive sites, Wicked Diving presents:

Backside Reef

This is another site that is often overlooked by the larger companies. Perfect for all levels of divers and snorkelers. With gentle currents and plenty of great reef life this is a great way to enjoy the Similan Islands.

Located On the eastern slope of Island #8, this reef is almost directly opposite Donald Duck Bay

Typical of the Eastern reefs, there is a gentle slope from the shallows until approx. 10 meters then a reef slope downwards to 30 meters. There you'll find many of the Benthic treats of the Similans. With great coral in the shallows and along the sloping reef even the most particular people will enjoy themselves. Several cleaning stations for the Photographers litter this site.

Diving depths range from 5-30 meters (15-100 feet) and most of our time is spent at 10-20 meters (30-70 feet)

Currents are actually to be expected but are usually mild and easy to cope with.

Visibility is usually 20 meters (70 feet).

Experience levels – everyone can dive this site. The perfect check dive for a liveaboard.
